Iron-Age Lowland Plateau Fort

A rectangular, lowland plateau fort defended by a single bank and v-shaped ditch with counterscarp enclosing an area of 4.5ha. The ditch was originally three metres deep and six metres wide, though nowadays is not quite as impressive, and the ramparts still stand in places over two metres high. The fort has not been dated but is reputed to be the site of the famous last battle of Queen Boudicca of the Iceni, where the British rebellion of 61AD was crushed by governor Suetonius Paulinus. Nothing has been found to confirm this claim, however.
