Iron-Age Hillfort

An ovoid fort defended by a single bank and ditch, with entrances on the east and west. Built on an island on the edge of the fens, this low-lying hillfort very likely belonged to the Iceni tribe of East-Anglia, and communicated via a causeway north-east through the marshes to Ely. If this is the case, the the encampment probably represented one of their border outosts withe the neighbouring tribe, the Catuvellauni.
