Iron-Age Hillfort

This strong, rectangular enclosure probably dates from the 1st century BC. It has double ramparts and external v-shaped ditches with a counterscarp bank, both ramparts seem to have been stengthened with timbers. An entrance on the NE was approached by a hollow way, and had a gate 3m wide. The defences were either destroyed by the Romans or dismantled on their instructions.
