Iron-Age Hillfort

A pear-shaped fort 164m across its larger dimension, occupying a prominent position on a steep scarp above the Vale of Pewsey. It has a single ditch, up to 3.5m wide and 2.7m deep, with an inner bank, crossed by 5 causeways. The ditch fill has been dated to 2760BC, while the upper levels, containing beaker shards, have been dated to 1840BC. There is a round barrow inside the camp and another outside. There may have been some iron-age activity on the site, and there is a small Romano-British farmstead in the NE part of the camp.
