Iron-Age Hillfort

An irregular area including 2 hilltops, is enclosed by a stone-faced rampart and ditch, with a counterscarp bank in places. Entries on NW and SE, with the latter being frequently rebuilt, with guard chambers. The first gate is radiocarbon-dated to c420BC. Interior has traces of 250 rectangular huts arranged along streets. The 8th gate was destroyed c50BC. The fort was finally burned-down in 48AD when Ostorius Scapula attacked the Deceangli.
