Iron-Age Hillfort

Located on the edge of Dartmoor, overlooking Fingle Bridge and the River Teign from the north, this strategic fort dominates the Teign valley together with another ancient hillfort at Cranbrook Castle, which is plainly visible on the opposite side of the river only one mile to the south-east. The fort is ovoid with strong triple defences enclosing an area of 4 acres (1.6ha). The entrance lies on the east and there are two small annexes on the north-east. The fort has yet to be excavated.
