Iron-Age Hillfort

Much-damaged low-lying fort entirely encloses the modern village. Its massive rampart is of gravel and clay with an external ditch, best preserved on the NW and E. Probably established to control the fords at its SE and SW corners. It has been dated to the 1st centuries BC/AD, though there was also evidence of an earlier occupation of the site in the 4th century BC.
