Iron Age Circular Plateau Fort

This fort has been hailed as "the finest monument of its period in the region", and its massive double banks and ditches which enclosed an area of about 3½ acres (c.1.4ha) survive in places up to 10 feet (3m) in height. The south-western rampart has been partially obliterated by modern landscaping, which is very unfortunate because the original entrance lay in this area; the entrances currently visible are all modern. It is thought that the fort was built towards the end of the last century BC, and it is known that there was some Romano-British occupation of the site.
