Caer-Y-Twr Signal Station

Iron Age Hillfort and Signal Station

Caer y Twr – The Encampment of the Tower – Enclosing an area of 7ha around the rocky summit of Holyhead Mountain, this hillfort had massive drystone-wall defences on only three sides, there being no need on the south due to a sheer escarpment. There was an entrance on the north-east. Unexcavated, but very likely pre-Roman in origin and apparently re-used during the Roman period to site a military signal tower or perhaps a pharos or lighthouse.
