Reported by St. Joseph in 1965 and excavated in 1995, the western ditch was seen to be V-shaped, with a square "ankle-breaker"/drainage-slot in the bottom, up to 11½ feet wide by around 5½ feet deep (3.5 x 1.7 m). A gateway in the north side is defended by a tutulus outwork.

There are other camps along the Esk at Eskbank, Lugton and Inveresk.
