A possible Roman settlement may have existed astride the main Bedford to Northampton road to the south of the crossing of the River Great Ouse.
A pottery kiln has been found along the line of the probable road to Irchester at Bozeat (SP9058) in Northamptonshire and a pottery and tile kiln has been found a little to the north on the opposite bank of the river at Harrold Lodge (SP933553) in Bedfordshire (see: Britannia I (1970) p.288.)
There is a villa at Gayhurst (SP8546) in Buckinghamshire, seven miles south-west along the River Great Ouse upstream. There are substantial Roman buildings six miles west-south-west at Ravestone (SP8450) and three miles to the east at Olney (SP8952) both in Buckinghamshire, and another four miles along the Bedford (Sandy) road at Kempston (TL0049) in Bedfordshire.
